Field Day 2025

The Bands Will Be Alive: ARRL Field Day 2025 Is Here!

Good afternoon, friends!

It’s that time of year again—Field Day is almost here. Whether you’re a seasoned operator or someone who’s just been curious about ham radio, ARRL Field Day is the perfect time to jump in, learn something new, and see what all the buzz (and static) is about.

So, what is Field Day?

Each year on the fourth full weekend in June, thousands of amateur radio operators across North America set up portable stations in parks, fields, mountaintops, and backyards to practice emergency communication skills, connect with other hams, and—let’s be honest—have a whole lot of fun. It’s part competition, part public demonstration, part disaster prep drill, and all about community.

Why it matters:

Field Day isn’t just about making contacts. It’s about proving that when the grid goes down, amateur radio doesn’t. It’s a hands-on reminder that we can set up comms in the field, log contacts with minimal infrastructure, and operate entirely off-grid if we need to. Every year we get a little sharper, test a little further, and bring a few more people into the hobby. We exercise voice, CW, data and experiment with a variety of modes under these conditions.

Want to get involved?

There are several Field Day sites operating right here in our area, and they’d love to have you stop by—whether to operate, log, observe, or just ask questions. Some clubs will be running on solar or battery power. Others may have digital modes, HF rigs, or even satellite attempts in play. There’s something for everyone.

If you’ve got kids, bring them! If you’ve got a license, bring your gear! If you’ve got curiosity, just bring yourself.
